5-day Capacity Building Programme for Vocational Instructors of ITI Kashmir Division

The Centre for Essential Skills, IIT Jammu successfully organized and managed a comprehensive five-day training program from 1st to 5th July 2024. The event aimed to enhance the professional skills and domain-specific knowledge of the participants, ensuring they are well-equipped to implement advanced education and training methods in their respective fields.

Day 1:

The first day of the training program comprised four engaging sessions, each lasting 1.5 hours.

Session 1: Effective Communication

  – Instructor: Ms. Jahnavi Gupta

  – Summary: This session focused on the fundamentals of effective communication, including techniques for clear and impactful expression, active listening, and constructive feedback.

Session 2: Professional Ethics, Leadership, and Motivation

  – Instructor: Professor Bijoy Boruah

  – Summary: Professor Boruah highlighted the importance of professional ethics in the workplace, leadership qualities, and ways to motivate oneself and others.

Session 3: Pedagogical Skills: Student Engagement and Effective Lecture Delivery

  – Instructor: Professor Abhay Sharma

  – Summary: This session provided insights into engaging students effectively and delivering impactful lectures, emphasizing interactive and student-centered teaching methods.

Session 4: Assessment and Feedback

  – Instructor: Professor Abhay Sharma

  – Summary: The final session of the day covered the principles of assessment and providing constructive feedback, crucial for monitoring and improving student performance.

Day 2 to Day 4:

The next three days were entirely dedicated to domain-specific sessions. Participants were exposed to the latest technologies relevant to their fields and trained on how to integrate these technologies into their teaching practices. These sessions aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring that the participants could effectively incorporate modern tools and techniques into their curricula.

Day 5:

The final day of the training program included four informative sessions followed by a closing ceremony.

Session 1: Learning Management Software, Open Source Software, Its Features, Demonstration, and Discussion

  – Instructor: Dr. Lakhvinder Singh

  – Summary: Dr. Singh introduced various learning management systems and open-source software, demonstrating their features and discussing their applications in educational settings.

Session 2: Report Writing, Documentation, Networking, and Government Schemes

  – Instructor: Dr. Vijay Pal

  – Summary: This session focused on the essential skills of report writing and documentation, effective networking strategies, and an overview of government schemes relevant to education and research.

Session 3: Critical Thinking and Decision Making

  – Instructor: Dr. Amitash Ojha

  – Summary: Dr. Ojha emphasized the importance of critical thinking and decision-making skills, providing strategies to enhance these abilities in both professional and personal contexts.

Session 4: Student Entrepreneurship and Startup Opportunities

  – Instructors: Dr. Naveent Kumar and Dr. Ankit Dubey

  – Summary: This session aimed to raise awareness about student entrepreneurship and startup opportunities. Alumni students who have successfully established their startups shared their journeys, providing inspiration and practical advice to the participants.

Closing Ceremony:

The event concluded with a closing ceremony where certificates were distributed to the participants. The ceremony was a fitting end to a week of intensive learning and skill development, celebrating the achievements of the participants and the successful execution of the training program.

Conclusion:

The five-day training program organized by the Centre for Essential Skills at IIT Jammu was a resounding success. It provided valuable knowledge and skills to the participants, equipping them with the tools necessary for effective teaching and professional development.
