River Modelling and Inflow Forecasting System for Hydro Power Projects for Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited (CVPPL)

The Centre for Essential Skills (CES) and Department of Civil Engineering IIT Jammu successfully organized a Two-Day Training Program on River Modelling and Inflow Forecasting System for Hydro Power Projects, held from October 21-22, 2024, in collaboration with Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited (CVPPL).

This program was tailored for engineers from CVPPL involved in various hydro power projects across Jammu & Kashmir, with 24 participants from different project sites attending the sessions. Coordinated by Dr. Chembolu Vinay, the program featured lectures and hands-on sessions led by experts from IIT Hyderabad, IIT Jammu, and IIT Roorkee.

  • Day 1:
    • Inauguration ceremony and participant introductions
    • Sessions by Dr. R. Maheswaran (IIT Hyderabad) on:
      • Forecasting basics
      • Inflow forecasting
    • Afternoon sessions led by Dr. Vinay:
      • River surveying equipment
      • Hydrodynamic modeling
      • Hands-on demonstration of modeling software
  • Day 2:
    • Case studies on inflow forecasting by Dr. Maheswaran
    • Hydrological modeling by Dr. Nitin Joshi (IIT Jammu)
    • Online presentation on operational inflow forecasting systems for Tehri Dam by Prof. N.K. Goel (IIT Roorkee)
    • Lab tour, faculty interaction, and certificate distribution ceremony

This initiative highlights CES’s commitment to enhancing technical expertise in the region’s hydro power sector.
