The Centre for Essential Skills (CES) IIT Jammu offers a range of skill-based courses and training to the broader society. In such a capacity, CES IIT Jammu is holding a series of Capacity building programs for the staff of polytechnic colleges of UT of J&K after having received the order from the office of the Directorate of Skill Development, J&K. The program over three days covers nine sessions that aims at highlighting various aspects of effective pedagogy. The program has been developed jointly by the Directorate of Skill Development, J&K and IIT Jammu.

Instructors

Prof Uma Shanker obtained his Master’s degree in Genetics and Plant Breeding and a Ph.D in Crop Physiology from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. His current research interests are in plant evolutionary biology, conservation genetics, bioprospecting, endophyte biology and data mining. After superannuation as Professor and Head, Department of Crop Physiology and School of Ecology and Conservation, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, he was an ICAR Emeritus Scientist at University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. Uma Shaanker is an elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore. He was a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and an Honorary Fellow of the Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore and Honorary Research Associate at the University of New Burnswick, Canada. He is currently also a Senior Fellow at the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), Bangalore. He has published more than 230 peer-reviewed papers, about 30 articles in books and monographs, besides authoring or editing fifteen books.

Prof Uma Shankar Senior Professor, IIT Jammu

Prof. Ashoke Kumar Sarkar has retired as Visiting Professor from IIT Jammu in 2022. Before that he worked at BITS Pilani for almost 20 years and occupied various administrative positions and retired as the Director of the institute in 2019. Earlier he worked at IIT Kharagpur, University of Durban (South Africa) and CSIR, Pretoria, South Africa. He has professional experience of about 40 years in teaching, research and consultancy in the areas of Transportation Engineering and planning Prof. Sarkar has successfully completed several sponsored research projects both at national and international levels and has published research papers in reputed national and international journals. Prof. Sarkar is widely travelled. His primary research area is rural transportation and accessibility and was invited in many countries to deliver talks on the topics related to rural transportation. He was closely associated with National Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (NRIDA), the agency responsible in the implementation of highly successful PMGSY in the country and was an Executive Committee member of NRIDA for over ten years. He was also a member of the Rural Roads Committee of Indian Roads Congress (IRC) for two terms.

Prof Ashoke K Sarkar Retd Professor IIT Jammu

Dr. Chembolu Vinay is presently working as Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering Department at Indian Institute of Technology Jammu. He obtained his PhD in Water Resources Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati in March, 2020. His research interests include River Engineering, River Hydraulics and Experimental Hydraulics. At IIT Guwahati, he has got varied experience of working with research and consultancy projects for river training, development of waterways, dam break analysis, flood inundation modelling and environmental flows, all those pertaining to Indian Rivers. He has been actively conducting hydrographic surveys in Challenging rivers like the Chenab, Brahmaputra, Kosi, Brahmani and Himalayan Rivers. He is a member of UT Committee on Dam Safety of Jammu and Kashmir, British Society of Geomorphology, International Association of Sedimentologists and Association of Sciences of Liminology and Ocenography. He is supervising two PhD students on large scale hydrological and morphological modeling, two MTech students on sediment bypass tunnels and several other UG students on Nature Based Solutions. He is a reviewer of various Water Resources Journals and the expert member for various universities.

Dr Chembolu Vinay Assistant Professor IIT Jammu

Dr Ankit Dubey received the B.E. degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from the Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University (CSVTU), Bhilai-India in 2009 and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi-India in 2014. In 2012 and 2013, he was a visiting research scholar at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. From July 2014 to December 2014 he has been a research associate with IIT Delhi. From December 2014 to December 2018, he was with the faculty of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Goa-India, where he was an Assistant Professor. Since January 2019, he has been with the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jammu-India, where he is currently an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department. He has published several journal and conference papers in the area of communications engineering. He has several govt. of India sponsored projects worth 15 Millions INR. He is also working on a multidisciplinary research project on indigenous UAV systems funded by IIT Jammu with funds up to the tune of 40 Million INR. His research interests are in diversity combining, multi-hop transmission, physical layer security, PLC, IoT, and wireless communications. He works in the application side for smart grid communications, automation, IoT, UAV detection using radar, etc.

Dr Ankit Dubey Assistant Professor IIT Jammu

Bijoy Boruah, retired as Professor of Philosophy from IIT Delhi in 2018. Earlier he was Professor of Philosophy in IIT Kanpur. After retirement, he was Visiting Professor at IIT Ropar. Currently Senior Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Jammu.
