About the Course
French is one of the most widely spoken international languages. Effectively communicating in French remains a highly desirable skill in technological and diplomatic realms. This course is designed to enable learners to function effectively in a francophone environment and will also familiarise the learners with french culture and everyday life.
Course Objectives
- To enable students to conduct themselves in a milieu francophone
- To explore vocabulary, grammar and communicative aspects
- Introducing students to French Culture

Course Units
Unit 1
Professions and Nationalities, Daily Life, Physical and Psychological descriptions, Cardinal Numbers
Definite and Indefinite Articles, Types and nos of Nouns and their adjectives, Interrogation and negation, present tense conjugations
Intonation, Liaison, Vowels- Oral and Nasal
Meeting People, Inviting and responding to an invitation, describe people
Unit 2
Places to stay and food, clothes and colours, festivals and different things to do, Ordinary numbers
Partitive articles, demonstrative and possessive adjectives, prepositions and adverbs of quantity and places, simple pronouns, conjugations of Imperative, and variations of pronouns
Intonation, Semi- Vowels, Liaison, rhythmical and hard consonants
Expressing order and obligation, demanding and commanding, evaluating and appreciating, congratulating and thanking
Life in the countryside, familiarity with a region of France (Bourgogne)
About the Instructor
Prof Manoj Aggarwal
Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Aggarwal is a former civil servant who, in his professional career, has worked in a large number of professional settings and domains. With professional qualifications in engineering, management and public policy, Dr. Aggarwal has substantial experience of working in the government, the private sector as well as in academics. His areas of interest and expertise are public policy, infrastructure management, public private partnership, public service delivery, project planning and execution, stakeholder management and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Currently professor in charge of Institute Incubation and Innovation Council at Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu, he believes in delivering efficiency and growth by integrated planning and delivery and building motivated teams. He is essentially a mentor at heart and is committed to contributing to the growth trajectories of upcoming entrepreneurs.
