Empowering Future Leaders: 4-Day Skill Development Program on HVAC Operations and Maintenance

The Centre for Essential Skills (CES) at IIT Jammu, in collaboration with the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), proudly announces the successful conclusion of the Skill Development Program for HVAC Operation and Maintenance in the hospitality sector. The program, aimed at equipping participants with essential skills for the growing demands of the hospitality industry, was met with overwhelming enthusiasm and participation.

The 4-day program featured insightful sessions from Mr. Ajay Raj, who brings 30 years of experience in HVAC, followed by sessions from Shri Gian Chand Modgil Ji, Advisor to IIT Jammu and the World Bank. Additional sessions were conducted by Dr. Navneet Kumar, Dr. Lakhvinder Singh, Dr. Anup Shukla, Dr. Sudhakar Modem, Dr. Siddharth, and Dr. Abhinav. Participants gained hands-on exposure to commercial-scale HVAC systems, fully operational at IIT Jammu. Thanks to the generous support of IHCL, candidates had the unique opportunity to visit the Chiller plant at Taj Vivanta Jammu, where they observed its operations and gained valuable practical insights. At the Central Innovation Lab (CIL) at IIT Jammu, participants also had the chance to understand the operation and maintenance of water-cooled HVAC systems, as well as the PLC operations of HVAC systems.

The valedictory ceremony, held at IIT Jammu, was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Mr. Khalid Jahangir (JKAS), Managing Director of JKTPO; Prof. Pallippattu Krishnan Vijayan, Dean of Administration, IIT Jammu; Col Virinder Singh Jeji, Registrar, IIT Jammu; and Mr. Munish, Manager HR Vivanta Jammu City Centre,representing IHCL. Their presence underscored the significance of such initiatives in fostering skill development and industry-academia collaboration.

During the ceremony, the dignitaries addressed the participants and emphasized the importance of specialized training programs in enhancing employability and contributing to the growth of the hospitality sector. Certificates were distributed to the trainees who successfully completed the program, marking their readiness to excel in their professional journeys.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Khalid Jahangir lauded the efforts of IIT Jammu and IHCL in organizing the training and highlighted its alignment with the vision of creating a skilled workforce in Jammu and Kashmir. Prof. Vijayan expressed pride in IIT Jammu’s commitment to skill development and innovation, while Mr. Munish reaffirmed IHCL’s dedication to supporting initiatives that empower individuals with industry-relevant skills.
