The Cooling Innovation Lab and the Centre for Essential Skills at IIT Jammu, in collaboration with the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), successfully concluded Batch II of the Skill Development Workshop on HVAC Operations and Maintenance in the Hospitality Sector. Held from March 4–7, 2025, the four-day program aimed to equip participants with hands-on training and industry-relevant skills to enhance employability in the HVAC domain.
The inaugural ceremony began with a Lamp Lighting ritual and was graced by dignitaries including Prof. Kannan Iyer, Prof. P.K. Vijayan, Prof. Maddali Ramgopal, Mr. Ujjawal Bhimwal, Dr. Satya Sekar Bhogilla, and Dr. Chembolu Vinay. Dr. Lakhvinder Singh welcomed the attendees, while Mr. Ujjawal Bhimwal offered insights into HVAC’s role in hospitality. The keynote address by Prof. Maddali Ramgopal highlighted HVAC’s critical contribution to energy efficiency and sustainability.
Following the success of Batch I in December 2024, this batch saw enthusiastic participation from 52 individuals, including 11 female candidates, 25 male participants from the Kashmir division, and 15 from the Jammu region. The training encompassed HVAC system design, thermal comfort, maintenance, automation technologies, and best practices.
Participants benefited from site visits to the HVAC facilities at Taj Vivanta Jammu, IIT Jammu’s HVAC plant and PLC operations lab, and the Heat Transfer and Energy Systems Lab. A “Job Ready Skills” session focused on CV writing, professional communication, and career preparedness.
The valedictory session featured remarks from industry experts including Mr. Gian Chand Modgil and Mr. Munish Kapoor, who emphasized the growing demand for skilled HVAC professionals. The workshop concluded with certificate distribution and positive participant feedback, affirming IIT Jammu’s commitment to impactful skill development.
